March Playmate of the Year Rewind: Ida Ljungqvist

Posted 3/21/2011 at 12:00 pm by Ben Garbe

Last week we rewound to Stacy Sanches, Miss March 1994 and the 1995 Playmate of the Year. This week let’s reminisce about the only other Miss March to be named Playmate of the Year: Ida Ljungqvist.

As the story goes, Ida was shopping in a Bebe store on the famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and was spotted by none other than Playmate of the Year 2007 Sara Jean Underwood. Sara convinced Ida to pose and the rest, as they say, is history. Ida is the first African-born Playmate of the Year. Her father worked for UNICEF, and her family lived in several parts of Asia and Africa during her childhood. Her father’s work and the things she was exposed to growing up left an indelible impression on her. Ida dedicated her work and her year as Playmate of the Year to advancing the causes of several charities and non-profit organizations, most notably Empowerment Works, a sustainability think-tank. Ida has also hosted her share of Playboy parties and events as well as making appearances on E!’s The Girls Next Door.
